Transformation between the wars

After the end of World War I, the site emerged as a business location attracting a broad range of companies including several forwarding companies, a glass factory, mechanical and chemical workshops, a tub and barrel factory and, later, a garage. Many of the buildings constructed at this time are still recognisable today.

Meanwhile, fun and entertainment again abounded in the former beer garden. The concerts, dances and club parties started up again alongside new sports, theatre and film events.

The halls were again also increasingly rented for political meetings by all manner of organisations. Wars of words and even physical brawls often ensued on these occasions between members of the Social Democratic, Communist and National Socialist parties.
